We at St. John’s are called to be God’s hands and feet in the world, and we take to heart loving our neighbors as ourselves. That’s why, several years ago, members of our congregation decided to do more to feed the community – creating St. John’s Cupboard. This ministry has grown beyond all expectations.
On average, we provide groceries and a prepared meal for over 100 individuals per week, and the program continues to thrive. Adding to this demand, we also share our facilities with another food program, Grace Place, which needs additional space. To do this feeding ministry well, these programs require a good kitchen facility and food storage area. We have simply outgrown our current facilities, and we need your help to meet the challenge.
Through the Growing to Serve capital campaign, we will upgrade and expand the kitchen – providing new appliances, a walk-in freezer, and ample space for dry good storage and food preparation. To accommodate this transformation and to be welcoming to all, the bathrooms will be relocated, new flooring will be installed int eh parish hall, a new HVAC system will be installed, and walls will be painted.
All of this will help us feed individuals and families and increase outreach – with ample space and robust facilities that will help volunteers continue to make a difference in people’s lives for years to come.
