St. John's Church Vestry

The governing body of an Episcopal parish is called the Vestry and takes its name from the room where the vestments are kept, this being the original meeting place of the adult male parishioners in the early Church of England. The Vestry is the legal representative of the parish and oversees the finances and other business of the parish. It also takes a leadership role in the spirituality of the parish by praying for guidance and direction, defining a vision for the parish and by each member striving to lead by example.

The Rector is the head of the Vestry. The officers are appointed by the Rector and/or the Vestry and consist of the Senior Warden, Junior Warden, Treasurer and Registrar. At St. John’s, all the officers have voice and vote.  There are six elected Vestry members, each serving a three-year term. Two people are voted on to the Vestry at the Annual Parish Meeting in December, replacing the two who have served their terms.
